About Shereef Akeel

An attorney who specializes in civil rights, business litigation, and personal injury, Shereef Akeel is a Partner at Akeel & Valentine PLC, located in Detroit and focused on civil rights law, personal inury, and business law. Shereef Akeel possesses a diversified background and education. Before pursuing a career in law, Shereef Akeel earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from University of Michigan and his Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University. Shereef Akeel graduated from Michigan State University’s Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State University College of Law) with his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1996.

Dedicated to defending the civil liberties of frequently discriminated sectors of American society, such as the Arab Community, Shereef Akeel recently filed suit on behalf of Iraqis who were tortured at Abu Ghraib prison. Shereef Akeel also sued the company Blackwater (now Xe Services LLC) for its role in the Nisoor Square massacre in Iraq.

A lawyer certified by the Michigan State Bar, Shereef Akeel is a member of numerous professional and legal organizations that uphold his commitment to international human and civil rights. Shereef Akeel belongs to BRIDGES, which is a union of community leaders and law enforcement agents that comes together to discuss civil rights matters.
